Donner Pass & Squaw Valley

August 3

Today we went to see Donner Pass.  We started at Donner Memorial State Park.  We drove around Donner Lake and visited the museum.
This park has some really big rocks!
Now this is a rock pile.  Lanny you thought you had a rock problem.
Every camp site has one of these.  A bear proof container.  I like how they have each one attached to a pole.  Yogi sure has his work cut out.

I have always been interested in the story of the Donner party.  After seeing this area and the terrain I cannot imagine how hard it was to cross these mountains.  I also, thought it was interesting that Hwy. 40 or the Lincoln Hwy. which originally went through LaPorte also went through Donner Pass.  The train tracks are also amazing.  How they were able to build it in all these rocks.
We left and went to Squaw Valley and had lunch and headed home.
