We are at the Hiouchi RV Park near Crescent City, CA. This is the northern entrance to the Redwood National Park. We found a great place for lunch at the docks called the Chart House. You could see the fishermen come in with the biggest fish. You could see the harbor seals and the food was great. Had lunch and then explored a little and planned our next day. We decided to do the Howland Road first. These first pix are from there. I think they speak for themselves.
We took a short hike to see this grove of trees.
This tree needed a little help.
I thought only hobbits lived in trees but I found a bear.
We thought this looked like a man with booger in his nose.
I loved this ground cover. It was everywhere.
After we finished the Howland road we went up the coast to southern Oregon. I saw this housing area and Bruce drove through it so I could take pix of their flowers. They probably thought we were casing the neighborhood to rob them.
This is a field of Easter Lily's. This area grows almost all of the Easter Lily's in the US.
We headed back to Crescent City. This is the Battery Point Lighthouse. It went into duty in 1856. It is still an active lighthouse and serves as a private residence with a lighthouse keeper.
The next day we decided to explore some of the Smith River NRA so we headed out for Bear Butte Basin lookout on a dirt road. We started up the road and the first we see on this one lane dirt track is a mfg. home. We had to follow it until there was a wide spot so we could squeeze by. We continued on and about 2 miles up the road we see 2 red cones in the middle of the road. We stop and this women comes out of her car and asks us if we passed her house coming up the road. We assured her it was coming very slowly. We continued on and the next thing we saw was a deer and then a black bear and then a huge golden brown bear who ran down the road in front of the car before he decided to run up the hill on the side of the road. Next came a fox and a deer with a fawn. Needless to say I was so excited I didn't get any pictures. We continued on. The road was awful. We continued going up until the road ended. And I can truthfully say a Bear does pee in the woods.
This is the only pix I have of this trip because I was holding on the rest of the time!
We drove 36 miles on this little exploration trip and it was great!
