Today we headed for Mt. St. Helen's. The day started out cloudy but as we got closer to the mountain the sun came out and it was a beautiful. We took Hwy. 504 up to the Johnson Ridge Observatory.
Our 1st glimpse of Mt. St. Helen's.
A close up pix of the lava dome inside the crater.
These gorges are 200 to 300 ft. deep. They were created by all the melted water from the eruption.
These purple and red flowers are everywhere.
I wanted to show the size of this tree. Start at the root and follow the white line.
This is the same tree as above but you can see the other side. Notice the side the blast hit has the bark stripped from it and the other side still has it's bark.
This is an actual transmission from one of the volunteer volcano watchers.
This is the new Spirit Lake. It is located 200 ft. higher then the original location. This is where the old man named Harry Truman was when the volcano erupted.
Logs buried in the creek banks.
Mt. Adams
On the way back we stopped at this adorable old house for lunch. The food was great and the people friendly. When they found out we were from Indiana they all had to talk to us.
After lunch we decided to go to the little town of Kalama to see some totem poles. It took us forever to find the tallest totem pole in the world. You would think you would notice it. Bruce was so excited! NOT
Bruce was so excited he had to give himself CPR. He just doesn't appreciate art!
After all this excitement, we headed home to get ready to head south in the morning.
